Getting started

What you need, the download tools, and your first video.

VideoLibrary needs macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later on an Apple silicon Mac. It downloads with three free tools that you install once: yt-dlp (does the downloading), FFmpeg (joins video and audio) and Deno (solves YouTube's player challenges).

  1. Install the app: follow the install guide.
  2. Open Settings (⌘,) › Tools and click Install & Update All. This uses Homebrew; if you don't have it, the Tools tab links to it.
  3. Click + in the toolbar, paste a link and click Download.

Your first library is ~/Movies/VideoLibrary. You can add more anywhere, including on external drives.
